Job Search Tools For Landing a Dream Job

I hear you’re in the market for a new job? Well, I’m so glad that you’re here amiga, because helping my clients with negotiations and job search is what I do best. I’ve helped my clients pivot into new roles and industries while securing 5-figure increases in salary. Here are some of my favorite job search tools that I use when looking for a new job.

Job Search Engines

First off, it’s important to identify what kind of job you’re looking for before you dive into the various job search engines. For example, the job search engine for roles in engineering would be different if you’re looking for roles in product marketing. Here are some of my favorite job search tools:

Indeed – Is an oldie but always a goodie. Indeed has great resume writing resources and a great blog for career tips.

Otta – If you’re looking to pivot into tech, Otta is a great job search engine for tech roles. You can find roles from marketing manager, content creation specialist and software developer.

BuiltIn – Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be a software developer to land a tech job. In fact, all tech companies need people in HR, Accounting, Operations, Project Management and Recruitment to support daily company functions. I love BuiltIn for finding tech jobs for my clients. With such a large database of great tech companies from all over the country, BuiltIn makes it easy to find the right culture, job and company that will suit you.

LinkedIn – LinkedIn is a wonderful spot to start your job search. A huge advantage to LinkedIn is knowing who is in your network and leveraging your network to get job interviews. Many times, companies will look for internal referrals for roles before making jobs available to the public. It’s always a great idea to keep your LinkedIn updated and to stay in touch with colleagues.

Glassdoor

Glassdoor is a great way to get insight about what it’s like to work at the company. The reviews section is particularly helpful, especially when trying to find the right culture match. Glassdoor also has insights to salary and compensation, however, always take this with a grain of salt. If you’re unsure about the salary range, ask the recruiter. And even then, I want to remind you it’s a range not law.

Resume Worded

Developing a strong resume is key to getting through many job ATS (applicant tracking systems). The truth is, most resumes are not reviewed by people, but instead go through an ATS reader that reviews your resume for how closely your resume matches to the role you applied for. Many times, applicants are being eliminated for using buzzwords or for passive voice in resumes. A great way to ensure that your resume is optimized for ATS processes is to use Resume Worded to see how your resume compares.

LinkedIn Optimization

Now a days recruiters are turning to LinkedIn to find top talent. If you haven’t taken the time to optimize your LinkedIn, you’re missing out on opportunities! And if you don’t have a LinkedIn at all, please do yourself a favor and read why LinkedIn Optimization is so crucial.
