Positive Affirmations During a Pandemic
During times like these, it’s easy to be anxious or have negative thoughts. There is so much going on in the world right now especially with the pandemic, at times it can be overwhelming. Our minds play a role in calming our thoughts. It’s important to be mindful about the messages we repeat to ourselves. Where does your mind go? What are you telling yourself? Is it constructive or destructive? Taking control of your thoughts can make a huge impact on your mental health. While practicing self-compassion is one way to accomplish this, another way to do this is by practicing positive affirmations.
What is an Affirmation?
Firstly, affirmations are positive statements that can help disrupt and reduce negative thoughts. Many of us are unaware of the negative dialogue we have with ourselves. Practicing positive affirmations can help challenge these negative thoughts and offer positive alternatives in their place. Constantly hearing negative thoughts will lead to their belief, meanwhile constantly telling ourselves positive affirmations creates a healthier perspective on our situations and increases our capacity to grow.
Practice Positive Affirmations
Secondly, positive affirmations should be personal and uniquely tailored to you. For instance, it is recommended that affirmation statements begin with “I am…”. It is powerful to use the word “I” because this is about changing the way you think about yourself!
Write down your positive affirmations in a journal or on sticky notes and place them somewhere you will see them often. A hack I have use to practice positive affirmations is to place my affirmations on my screen lock. Check out these positive affirmation wallpapers!
Take some time out of your day to say positive affirmations to yourself. Try to incorporate them into your daily routine. It can be in the morning as you are getting ready, while you enjoy your cup of coffee, while you exercise or maybe in the mirror right before bed. Remember, fake it till you make it and you will indeed make it!
